HOUSTON – GE has introduced ZeeWeed 700B, a horizontal-designed, inside-out ultrafiltration membrane that provides seawater pre-treatment for injection and solids removal offshore.
The system comprises blended polyethersulphone membranes that stay permanently hydrophilic, reducing the fouling tendency.
In comparison with granular filter media and cartridge filters, the membrane is said to produce superior water quality and to be virtually unaffected by variable raw water quality.
It can extend the life of a sulfate removal unit by providing improved pre-treatment, GE claims, along with decreased life cycle costs and a reduced weight and footprint.
In cases where the membranes are used purely for solids removal, it can also provide better reservoir protection, the company adds.
The ZeeWeed 700B membrane feature multi-bore fibers, said to be stronger than single bore fibers and minimizing the need for maintenance and repairs. It does not require air scouring and is said to eliminate the requirement for blowers.
