BERGEN, NorwayBergen Group has entered an agreement with Calm Oceans on marketing the latter’s newly developed mono-column platform (MCP) in the Norwegian sector.

This is a self-elevating, multi-purpose, high payload jackup, targeted at marginal fields and for early production from other fields.

Calm Oceans, based in Singapore, is controlled by Brian Chang Holdings which also has a 33.1% stake in Bergen Group.

Hans Petter Eikeland, CEO of Bergen Group, said: “The MCP is an effective bespoke solution which caters to anyoffshore field developments that are within 120 m (393 ft) water depth, particularly for marginal fields.

“Together with our leasing business model, we believed that this solution would be especially valuable and beneficial during this challenging period, for field operators whom are looking at means of reducing capex while sustaining the business.”

The MCP supports high a variable deck load of up to 5,000 tons, with deck space to support combinations of drilling, production, and accommodation modules.

The deck box, four-chord square truss structure (mono-column) has a mat foundation that allows it to operate in oil fields with soft seabeds that are normally problematic for conventional jackups.

In addition, the self-elevating feature is said to render use of a costly offshore construction fleet unnecessary during deployment and relocation.

The MCP design has been classed by ABS, and also adheres to MOU (Mobile Offshore Unit) Code 2008 and other IMO guidelines.
