TANANGER, Norway – ConocoPhillips Skandinavia has been P&A’ing the first production well drilled on the Ekofisk field in the southern Norwegian North Sea, 42 years after it came onstream.
Well A-13, spudded in November 1973 on theEkofisk 2/4A platform took 163 days to drill. It was also the first production well on a fixed installation on the Norwegian continental shelf when it started operations on April 25, 1974.
The oil was transported via a pipeline to loading buoy number 1 and to the tanker Elisabeth Fernstrøm.
Although oil production had started at Ekofisk three years earlier, this was initially through subsea solutions to the jackup rigGulftide.
The jackupRowan Gorilla VI started permanent plugging in late April and was due to complete the program in just under a month.
Over the years, A-13 produced 82.2 MMboe. ConocoPhillips will donate the christmas tree from the well to the Norwegian Oil Museum in Stavanger.
