ABERDEEN, UK – Heerema Marine Contractor has installed the new bridge-linked platform for Repsol Sinopec Resources’ Montrose area redevelopment (MAR) in the UK central North Sea.
The SSCVThialf placed the 10,500-metric ton (11,574-ton) topsides, built by Heerema Fabrication Group in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, on the pre-installed 119-m (390-ft) high, 5,745-ton jacket, fabricated by OGN in Wallsend, UK.
This was followed by installation of the 71-m (233-ft) long bridge, built by Wilton Engineering Services in Teesside, UK, which links the new structure to the existing Montrose Alpha platform. In addition, the vessel installed the flare boom.
Work now begins on commissioning of the plant and integration of the wells, with first production from the Shaw satellite field expected during 1Q 2017.
MAR is designed to add 100 MMboe of reserves and extend the life of the Montrose area facilities beyond 2030.
It has involved modification and expansion of the existing Montrose area infrastructure, and development of three new fields – Godwin, Cayley, and Shaw – raising production to 40,000 boe/d at peak.
Repsol Sinopec Resources UK has a 58.97% interest, the remainder held by Marubeni Oil & Gas (U.K.)
The Montrose area comprises the Montrose, Arbroath, Arkwright, Brechin, Wood, Godwin, Shaw, and Cayley fields in blocks 22/17, 22/18, 22/22 and 22/23, around 200 km (124 mi) east of Aberdeen. The existing Montrose Alpha platform was installed in 1976.
Subsea 7 fabricated and installed two 5-km (3.1-mi) long pipeline bundles, production, water injection, and gas lift pipelines and a 17-km (11-mi) control umbilical.
