VAASA, Finland – Wärtsilä has won a contract to provide the design for a new jackup lift vessel from an unnamed Chinese yard.

The company will develop its design in collaboration with lift boat consultant Altis.

Lift vessels, which are self-propelled, provide an offshore elevating platform with maneuvering capabilities to support operations includingwell intervention and maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and removal of offshore rigs.

Features of the latest Wärtsilä design are said to include improved crane capacity, Maritime Labour Convention compliance, accommodation, operational water depth, and DP-2 (dynamic positioning).
