Njord A platform to return to shore for upgrades

Statoil has awarded Kvaerner a framework agreement to upgrade the Njord A semisubmersible platform in the Norwegian Sea.

LYSAKER, NorwayStatoil has awarded Kvaerner a framework agreement to upgrade the Njord A semisubmersible platform in the Norwegian Sea.

Due to concerns over structural integrity of the platform for future operations and drilling it will be towed to shore this year, also undergoing a general upgrade during the yard-stay.

The framework agreement is based on a project execution plan that at key milestones gives Statoil the right to call-off execution of further phases.

The first call-off relates to front-end engineering and design of the project.Aker Solutions MMO will perform engineering as a subcontractor in an integrated team with Kvaerner.

Kvaerner built and delivered Njord A at its Stord yard in Norway in 1997.
