Eni to start drilling offshore Mexico in December

MEXICO CITYEni CEO Claudio Descalzi has held talks with PEMEX CEO José Antonio González Anaya.

Last September Eni became the first major to acquire an exploration block offshore Mexico,Area 1, following an international bid.

The company plans to start drilling in December. Mexico’s Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos estimates in-place volumes of hydrocarbons in the block at 800 MMbbl of oil and 480 bcf of associated gas from theAmoca, Mitzon, and Tecoalli discoveries.

Eni expects to finish appraisal drilling by end-2017, after which it plans to submit a development plan to the authorities.
