SHARJAH, UAE – Fabricator Lamprell has issued an update on its offshore engineering/construction activities.

Discussions continue withSaudi Aramco, Bahri, and Hyundai Heavy Industries concerning a potential collaboration at the Maritime Complex in Saudi Arabia.

Lamprell has also agreed to work with Dubai Drydocks to identify opportunities for cooperation onFPSO/FPU projects in light of Dubai’s aspiration to become a strategic location for such projects.

Over the past year Lamprell has taken action to improve efficiency and productivity at its yards in the UAE.“Project Evolution” has led to start-up of a new panel line, improvements in automation, and benefits in terms of productivity following an initial training period.

One example is welding, a major component in fabrication that accounts for around 30% of total manhours at the yards. New beam-cutting robots cut beams to exact size much faster and more accurately.

In addition, Lamprell says it has optimized its painting, crane and scaffolding services, and use of yard space. This has allowed the company to accommodate construction of a record seven concurrent jackup rigs at the Hamriyah facility.
