LONDON– The Offshore Contractors Association (OCA) and UK offshore trade union Unite have reached an agreement regarding conditions for offshore workers, avoiding a strike.

Following a consultative ballot, which closed on Jan. 8, OCA members, who provide maintenance across installations in theUK continental shelf, voted to accept improved holiday entitlement and a joint review of the workers’ shift rotations. More than 50% voted to accept the offer.

The agreement ends what Unite called in a statement “a prolonged dispute,” noting that workers had previously rejected efforts by some OCA employers to impose cuts to jobs, terms, and conditions without consultation following the slump in oil price.
