Iran gears up for further South Pars launches

Five more phases of the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf should start up in various forms by mid-year, according to news service Shana.

TEHRAN, Iran – Five more phases of the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf should start up in various forms by mid-year, according to news service Shana.

During the inauguration ceremony for phases 15 and 16, National Iranian Oil Co. Managing Director Rokneddin Javadi said the onshore section ofphases 17 and 18 is ready to operate at full capacity.

Once development of the phases’ offshore section becomes complete, they will be fully launched by mid-March 2017.

Phases 19, 20, and 21 will be ready to launch by this June. “In case we overcome the present financial crisis, the remaining South Pars phases will also become operational within two years,” Javadi said.

All phases of South Pars combined currently produce 420 MMcm/d of natural gas, he added.
