GREAT YARMOUTH, UK – Logistics group Peterson and environmental services provider Veolia will invest £1 million ($1.57 million) in a new, purpose-built decommissioning complex in Great Yarmouth on England’s east coast.

The site, with support funding from NewAnglia LEP, will offer operators in the southern North Sea a full decommissioning service.

It will be located on the recently developed Outer Harbour at Great Yarmouth port, allowing topsides, jackets, and subsea equipment to be offloaded for dismantling and recycling.

The Veolia-Peterson partnership, due to be operational next month, will initially create up to seven new jobs, increasing later in line with project requirements and market demand.

Peterson, which has been operating in the town since 1997, employs 30 people at its existing facility providing quayside and logistics services.

James Johnson, decommissioning manager at Peterson said: “As recently highlighted by industry bodyDecom North Sea, costs for decommissioning North Sea offshore assets over the next decade are forecast to be around £14.6 billion [$22.9 billion].

“We have a real opportunity, working in collaboration with our partners, to establish Great Yarmouth as the center for decommissioning for the SNS, delivering comprehensive, safe and cost-effective decommissioning solutions.”
