ABERDEEN, UK – Kebabangan Petroleum Operating Co. (KPOC) has contracted Wood Group Kenny (WGK) to support pipeline engineering and flow assurance engineering studies for the Kamansu East (KME) field offshore Sabah, Malaysia.
Scope of work includes concept select studies and definition engineering on subsea heating options to prevent formation of hydrates in the 30-km (18.6-mi) gas pipeline which runs from the KME field in 750 m (2,460 ft) of water to the new shelf edge Kebabangan platform.
WGK says the pipeline heating technology could be the first application for deepwater gas development off Malaysia.
The KME field andKebabangan Northern Hub Project are part of the Kebabangan Cluster, owned by Petronas Carigali, ConocoPhillips (Sabah Gas), and Shell Energy Asia. KPOC is a joint venture company that acts as the cluster operator.
First gas from the field is likely in the early 2020s.
