PARIS – CGG will conduct a western extension of the Horda BroadSeis BroadSource 3D multi-client survey it began acquiring in the northern Norwegian North Sea last year.
The extension, known as Tampen, will be over the Northern Viking Grabenoffshore Norway and the UK, and should be completed in 2016. It will encompass fields such as Statfjord, Gullfaks, Snorre, and Osberg offshore Norway and others in the UK sector.
Tampen will add 17,000 sq km (6,564 sq mi) of data to the initial 18,000-sq km (6,950-sq mi) survey that CGG will complete this season, providing a total of 35,000 sq km (13,513 sq mi) of contiguous and uniform broadband seismic data coverage.
Overall, the Horda program is designed to deliver an integratedgeoscience package to support exploration and development activities. It will include geological context and a prospectivity review, data on potential fields, satellite hydrocarbon seep imagery, a well database, biostratigraphy, sedimentology and geochemistry data, and seismic reservoir characterization products supported by reservoir-quality seismic data.
CGG is performing fasttrack and full imaging in Norway using its newest broadband subsurface imaging technologies. It delivered fasttrack data from the 2014 8,500-sq km (3,282-sq mi) section of the initial survey last fall.
Final data for this area and fasttrack data for both last year’s and this year’s campaigns are expected to be available during 4Q 2015.
Jean-Georges Malcor, CEO of CGG, said the program should allow oil companies to calibrate and compare the seismic response from existing discoveries and new prospects and leads. “This will reduce the risk of drilling structures adjacent to old discoveries and develop new play models in the region.”
