ABERDEEN, UK – The semisubmersible Transocean Spitsbergen has spudded the Bister exploration well in the Norwegian Sea for operator Statoil. Water depth is 260 m (853 ft).
Well 6407/8-7 is license PL 348/C, which also contains the producing Hyme field and the 2013Snilehorn discovery, and is adjacent to the Statoil-operated Njord field.
According to partnerFaroe Petroleum, the well will target oil and gas in the Jurassic, Ile, Tilje, and Åre formations (analogous to the Hyme oil field and Snilehorn reservoirs).
There is also a seismic amplitude anomaly on the structure that appears similar to the anomalies on Snilehorn and Hyme field, with evidence of a pressure barrier between these two fields. This should help de-risk Bister, Faroe says.
During the next few months, the company expects to participate in follow-up wells on last year’sPil oil discovery in the Norwegian Sea, and on the Blink and Boomerang prospects.
