STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has scored a second successive gas discovery within tieback range of its deepwater Aasta Hansteen development in the Norwegian Sea.
The well, drilled by the semisubmersibleTransocean Spitsbergen, proved a 38-m (124-ft) gas column in the Nise formation in the Roald Rygg prospect in license PL602 partners. It followed the earlier find on the Snefrid Nord structure, 7 km (4.3 mi) to the east.
Statoil estimates recoverable volumes from Roald Rygg in the 12-44 MMboe range. This combined with the findings from Snefrid Nord correspond to around 25% of the Aasta Hansteen recoverable potential.
Aasta Hansteen will feature the world’s largest spar platform. Statoil anticipates start-up in 2017.
