ABERDEEN, UKChurchill Drilling Tools has delivered the first of its new HyPR HoleSaver hydraulic pipe recovery systems.

Two major operators have now selected the tool for projects in theNorth Sea and another plans an imminent deployment in the Gulf of Mexico.

HyPR HoleSaver comprises a full-strength sub positioned in the drillstring, which can be severed in roughly one hour.

A jetting dart is launched and lands inside the sub to jet the internal API connection. After a relatively short period of pumping, the sub parts following application of a small amount of torque and/or over pull from the surface, providing a fish-neck or immediate side track cementing options.

A Churchill spokesman said: “Stuck pipe incidents cost the drilling industry millions, if not billions of dollars each year. With the sector tightening the purse strings even further, it’s paramount to ensure cost-effective solutions are established to mitigate the burden inherently associated with stuck pipe.”

The system can be run singly, normally above a circulation sub, or in multiples throughout the string to maximize coverage options, he added.
