OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway is investigating a dropped object incident that occurred on Monday on the drilling deck of the semisubmersibleWest Venture.

The rig, operated by North Atlantic Drilling (NAD), has been working for Statoil on the Troll field in the North Sea.

A 90-kg (198-lb) coupling sleeve fell 6 m (19.7 ft) from a rotary table onto the top of a BOP. Two people were on the top of the BOP when the incident arose, but there were no injuries.

PSA aims to establish the chain of events and identify underlying causes.

Earlier this week the authority launched another investigation into afire onboard the Knarr FPSO, also in the North Sea.
