Big Foot on way to Walker Ridge in GoM

Chevron’s Big Foot semisubmersible production platform is on its way to installation in the Walker Ridge area of the US Gulf of Mexico.

HOUSTON –Chevron’s Big Foot semisubmersible production platform is on its way to installation in the Walker Ridge area of the US Gulf of Mexico.

Crowley and Signet Maritime combined eight tugboats to move the platform out of Corpus Christi, Texas, toward its final location. The tow is expected to reach the installation site by the middle of next week.

Once anchored to the ocean floor in 5,200 ft (1,585 m) of water, Chevron says the offshore hook-up and commissioning work will commence, followed by the development well drilling and completion campaign. First oil and gas is expected this year.

TheBig Footplatform is a dry-tree extended TLP with an on-board drilling rig and production capacity of 75,000 bbl of oil and 25 MMcf/d of natural gas.

Chevron subsidiary, Chevron U.S.A. Inc. (operator), has a working interest of 60% in theBig Foot development, with co-owners Statoil (27.5%) and Marubeni Oil & Gas (12.5%).
