ABERDEEN, UK – Centrica is working to complete development studies for the Butch field in the southern Norwegian North Sea, according to partner Faroe Petroleum.

Despite failing to prove further reserves via two appraisal wells last year, the partners are pursuing studies based on three alternative concepts.

One is a subsea tieback to BP’s Ula field complex; another is a subsea tieback to Talisman’s Gyda field facilities. The third option is for a standalone development using a leased jackup rig.

Centrica plans to submit the development plan with the selected concept next year to the Norwegian authorities.

As for the Wintershall-operatedFogelberg discovery in the Norwegian Sea, the partners are refining the development concept, Faroe says.

They are waiting for gas export capacity to become available in the Åsgard subsea transportation system before making a final commitment in the license and starting preparations for submission of the development plan.

In the UK central North Sea the partners in the Perth (Faroe 34.26%), Dolphin (Faroe 34.62%), and Lowlander (Faroe 100%) fields recently entered into a heads of agreement concerning apotential joint development.

The accord addresses ownership alignment, a joint work program and financing. The plan is for the three fields to share the same dedicated production facilities to allow a commercial development to proceed, while also providing a long-term hub for future projects in the area.

All three fields are fully appraised with a combined total of 11 wells drilled, and estimated recoverable oil reserves of around 80 MMbbl.
