OSLO, Norway – Telenor Satellite Broadcasting says its new THOR 7 satellite has arrived safely at the Guiana Spaceport in Kourou.
It is due to be launched by Arianespace in mid-April onboard an Ariane 5 ECA launcher.
THOR 7 will provide expansion and restoration capacity for the distribution of broadcast and data-communication services throughout Europe. The spacecraft is to be launched from the Guiana Spaceport on board an Ariane 5 ECA launcher.
Morten Tengs, CEO of Telenor Satellite Broadcasting, said: “The HTS Ka-band payload on THOR 7, designed specifically for the mobility VSAT market, is a first for [Telenor] and will allow us to further increase our market share in the maritime and offshore sector, delivering cost-effective solutions and high-powered coverage over theNorth Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the Red Sea, the Baltic Sea, and the Mediterranean.
A mission team will be stationed at Kourou to supervise final preparations before the launch.
THOR 7 is equipped with both a Ku-band and an HTS (high throughput satellite) Ka-band payload. The latter will be used for TV services in Central and Eastern Europe while the HTS Ka-band payload has been designed for themobility VSAT market.
