Offshore drilling rig count declines by 24

The international offshore rig count for January 2015 was 314, down 24 from the 338 counted in December 2014, and up 12 from the 302 counted in January 2014, reports Baker Hughes.

HOUSTON –The international offshore rig count for January 2015 was 314, down 24 from the 338 counted in December 2014, and up 12 from the 302 counted in January 2014, reports Baker Hughes.

From December 2014 through January 2105, the offshore rig count by area is given as the following:

  • United States, down 6 from 59 to 53
  • Canada, up one from 2 to 3
  • Latin America, down 3 from 82 to 79
  • Europe, down 6 from 51 to 45
  • Africa, down 2 from 47 to 45
  • Middle East, down 2 from 45 to 43
  • Asia/Pacific, down 11 from 113 to 102

The worldwide count for both offshore and onshore rigs for the period declined from 3,570 to 3,309. The largest drop, 199 rigs, came in the United States.
