Esso adds more wells at Turrum offshore southeast Australia

Esso Australia is drilling five new wells at the Turrum field as part of its ongoing program to develop new gas supplies in the Bass Strait.

MELBOURNE, Australia – Esso Australia is drilling five new wells at the Turrum field as part of its ongoing program to develop new gas supplies in the Bass Strait.

A drilling rig on the new Marlin B platform is performing the AUD$335-million ($260-million) campaign, comprising four gas wells and one oil well. Last October Esso Australia produced first oil from the $4.5-billionKipper Tuna Turrum project. Production from the Turrum field is exported via the Marlin B facility.

Turrum has an estimated 1 tcf of natural gas and 110 MMbbl of oil and gas liquids. Drilling is expected to continue into the second half of 2015.
