BOEM identifies GoM lease sale acreage

The US Interior Department and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) plan to offer 41.2 million acres for oil and gas exploration and development in the Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 235 that will be held in New Orleans on March 18, 2015.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –The US Interior Department and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) plan to offer 41.2 million acres for oil and gas exploration and development in the Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 235 that will be held in New Orleans on March 18, 2015.

Central Planning Area Sale 235 encompasses 7,788 unleased blocks, covering about 41.2 million acres, located from three to 230 nautical miles offshore Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, in water depths ranging from 9 to more than 11,115 ft (3 to 3,400 m).

BOEM estimates the proposed sale could result in the production of approximately 1 Bbbl of oil and 4 tcf (113 bcm) of natural gas.
