HELSINKI, Finland – Six anchor handling tug supply vessels, to be built at Kleven Verft in Norway for Maersk Supply Service, will feature power/propulsion equipment from Wärtsilä. There is an option for an additional four vessels.
The 95-m (311-ft) long vessels will be deployed in deepwater oil field operations, with priority requirements said to be reliability, safety, and uptime.
Wärtsilä’s scope covers power generation, electrical distribution and drives, and the vessel automation/propulsion systems. All these systems will be fully integrated to optimize power, efficiency, and redundancy.
In addition, the company will provide project management, engineering, yard support, and commissioning. The power generation solution will be based on the latest version of the Wärtsilä 32 and Wärtsilä 20 generating set.
The electrical and automation system will incorporate the company’s Low Loss Concept (LLC) power distribution system for electric and hybrid propulsion applications, allowing the vessels to achieve the highest Environmental Regularity Number (ERN) of 99.99.99.99. This rating represents the capability of a vessel to maintain its position and normal operations under certain weather conditions.
The propulsion system includes two Wärtsilä controlled pitch propellers (CPP) and five Wärtsilä transverse thrusters. The first six vessels are due to be delivered between 4Q 2016 and 3Q 2017.
