Statoil receives more blocks offshore New Zealand

Statoil has gained interests in four new exploration permits offshore New Zealand.

STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has gained interests in four new exploration permits offshore New Zealand. All were awarded under the New Zealand government’s 2014 Block Offer.

Block 57057 (Statoil operator with a 100% interest) is in the Reinga basin, 100 km (62 mi) offshore Northland, and adjacent to the company’s existing exploration permit 55781. The new concession covers an area of 1,670 sq km (645 sq mi) in water depths of about 1,500 m (4,921 ft). Commitments include acquiring 200 line km (124 mi) of 2D seismic data.

The company also secured 50% of blocks 57083, 57085, and 57087 in the East Coast and Pegasus basins southeast of New Zealand’s North Island. Operator Chevron holds the remaining 50%. The concessions extend more than 25,000 sq km (9,652 sq mi) in water depths ranging from 800-3,000 m (2,625-9,842 ft). The initial work phase involves data collection.
