LONDON – Rockhopper says it plans to exit the Area 4 license offshore Malta at the end of the first exploration phase on Jan. 18, 2015. This follows a review of results of the unsuccessful deepwater Hagar Qim well drilled this summer.
In offshore Area 3, processing of a 2D broadband survey is nearing completion and interpretation results will determine whether the partners commit to a 3D survey under the exploration study agreement.
Italy’s government is due to give its verdict next month on the AIA (integrated environmental assessment) for theOmbrina Mare development offshore Abruzzo region in the Adriatic Sea.
If the outcome is positive, Rockhopper plans to start negotiations soon afterward on the final award process of the production concession with the Ministry of Economic Development.
Last month the government passed new legislation through the Italian parliament that is expected to accelerate the country’s planning processes, the company says, allowing long-stalled development projects to finally progress.
