OSLO, Norway – Norske Shell has clearance from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway for a new production well at the Ormen Lange gas field in the southern Norwegian Sea.
Water depth atOrmen Lange is between 800 and 1,100 m (2,624 and 3,609 ft).
The semisubmersibleTransocean Barents is due to start drilling well 6305/7-D-5H on Nov. 15, but operations will have to be suspended at some point as environmental protection factors rule out drilling in the reservoir during the winter.
Drilling will not then re-start until March 1, 2015 at the earliest.
