CALGARY, Canada – Sterling Resources says the first production well has been drilled and completed at the TAQA-operated Cladhan field in the UK northern North Sea.

The P1 well encountered more and higher quality sands than expected. The W1 water injection well has also been drilled, encountering the down-dip reservoir sands evident from the 210/29-4Y appraisal well that Sterling drilled in 2010.

Soon the semisubmersibleTransoceanJohn Shaw will start drilling the second production well (P2), which had been suspended so that data from the W1 well could be used to optimize the P2 downhole location.

TheEnsco 70 jackup has left the Breagh gas field in the UK southern North Sea for the Crosgan appraisal well location in block 42/15, 25 km (15.5 mi) to the northeast.

Sterling has initiated farm-down processes for a UK North Sea license near the Brigantine gas field, which contains the Rotliegendes Niadar prospect and another license 25 km north of Breagh containing the Carboniferous Darach and Permian reef Ossian prospects.

Commitment wells could be drilled on these blocks in 2016 and 2015, respectively.
