LONDONOphir Energy says the drillship Deepsea Metro I has discovered gas while drilling the Tende-1 well in the East Pande block offshore Tanzania.

The well is in a water depth of 781 m (2,562 ft) and was drilled to a TD of 4,153 m (13,622 ft). Although gas traces were encountered in the upper strata of the primary objective, wireline logs confirmed no moveable hydrocarbons were present.

In the secondary Tikiti objective, the well encountered gas-bearing sandstone. Ophir will evaluate the results in its review of the remaining prospects in the East Pande block.

Deepsea Metro I’s subsequent well for Ophir on the Mkuki prospect in block 7 was a dry hole.
