Shell announces deepwater gas discovery offshore Gabon

Shell has announced a frontier exploration discovery offshore Gabon, West Africa. The Leopard-1 well encountered a gas column with approximately 200 m (656 ft) net gas pay in a presalt reservoir.

HOUSTONShell has announced a frontier exploration discovery offshore Gabon, West Africa. The Leopard-1 well encountered a gas column with approximately 200 m (656 ft) net gas pay in a presalt reservoir.

The Leopard-1 well is 145 km (90 mi) off the Gabonese coast, west of Gamba. It was drilled in water 2,110 m (6,923 ft) deep to a TVD of 5,063 m (16,611 ft). Shell and partners are planning to undertake an appraisal program to further determine the resource volumes.

Leopard-1 was drilled in license BCD10, and is operated by Shell, which has a 75% interest in the discovery. The second partner in the venture is CNOOC Ltd., with 25%.
