RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras and its partners in the Libra consortium have signed a letter of intent with Odebrecht/Teekay for the charter of an FPSO-type platform.

This will be deployed for an extended well test (EWT) campaign on thepresalt Libra field in the Santos basin. It will be operated by a company to be established by the two contractors.

Delivery of the FPSO and the start of the first EWT are both scheduled for 4Q 2016.

The plan is to conduct tests in various areas of the block, in order to evaluate production performance and acquire information about the Libra area. The results will provide the basis for future production systems.

For each of the EWTs, two wells will be connected to the FPSO, one oil producer and one gas injector. The tests will also be the first worldwide to involve a gas reinjection system, Petrobras says.

The platform will have a processing capacity of 50,000 b/d of oil and gas injection capacity of 4 MMcm/d (141 MMcf/d). Most of the produced gas will be re-injected into the reservoir for pressure maintenance with some consumed during operations.

Petrobras and its partners Shell, Total, CNPC, and CNOOC havespudded two exploration wells in the block.

The 1,500-sq km (579-sq mi) Libra structure is 183 km (114 mi) from the coast of Rio de Janeiro, with potential volumes in the 8-12 Bboe range.
