LUTELANDET, Norway – Veolia Environmental Services UK has won a contract to decommission Talisman Energy’s 14,000-metric ton (15,432-ton) Yme oil platform in the Norwegian North Sea.

The jackup platform, supplied by SBM but never used because of structural issues, is 72 m (236 ft) long and 87 m (285 ft) high. It will be removed and towed in a single lift and subsequently dismantled by Veolia at itsdecommissioning site in Lutelandet, southwest Norway.

Following its arrival in mid-2015, Veolia plans to recycle 99.7% of the structure. The platform contains a range of materials including precious metals, iron, steel, and electrical items.

Additionally, the contractor will form a long-term agreement with its Norwegian partner, Lutelandet Offshore, to develop the deepwater quay and site at Lutelandet in anticipation of further similar dismantling jobs in future.
