SYDNEY, Australia – Roc Oil (China) has discovered oil with the first of two exploration wells in Beibu Gulf block 22/12 offshore China.
The WZ12-10-1 well and subsequent side track WZ12-10-1Sa, drilled by theHYSY 935 rig, encountered oil pay in the Jiaowei (T42) formation, but no pay was interpreted in the Weizhou formation. The well reached a TD of 1,406 m (4,613 ft) MD/1,373 m (4,504 ft) TVDSS, where it intersected the basement granite.
The location is 4.7 km (2.9 mi) northeast of theWZ12-8W platform and 2.7 km (1.7 mi) west of the WZ12-8E discovery wells. A wireline evaluation logging program has confirmed the oil pay in the T42 reservoir.
HYSY 935 will next mobilize to the WZ12-10-2 exploration location to drill the second and final well in this program.
