HOUSTON– GE (NYSE: GE) has unveiled its new 16.5-MW NovaLT16 gas turbine for mechanical drive and power generation applications in the oil and gas industry.
The NovaLT16 gas turbine will provide up to 37% mechanical efficiency – raising the standards of efficient and reliable oil and gas applications within the 10-20-MW power range, said GE. Rated for 16.5 MW and 7,800 rpm, it will be suited for pipeline compression, power generation, and oil and gas plant compression applications. For offshore compression and power generation, the new gas turbine will have the ability to withstand pitch and roll.
The new turbine features high availability (up to 99%) and reliability, thanks to four years of continuous operation between maintenance cycles. The gas turbine has built-in provisions for remote monitoring and diagnostics through GE’s Industrial Internet technology, with the diagnostic software Predictivity Solutions, integrated data gathering, and data transfer within its control panel. This enables any problems to be anticipated and preemptively addressed, reducing operating costs and the need for onsite visits for maintenance.
Development and testing of the NovaLT16 engine began in 2013. Completed units, including all auxiliaries systems and controls, are planned for release to the market in early 2016.
