RS to class newbuild Caspian support vessels

Russia’s Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has signed a contract with Baku Shipyard for three 38М high speed crew boats ordered by Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Co.

BAKU, AzerbaijanRussia’s Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has signed a contract with Baku Shipyard for three 38М high speed crew boats ordered by Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Co.

Construction is due to start this month, with all the vessels set to be delivered by May 2016. They will be assigned the RS class notation: KM✪ HSC crew boat.

Thevessels are designed to transport up to 80 people and various types of cargo to mobile offshore drilling units and other offshore oil and gas exploration and production facilities. They will be able to operate up to 100 mi (161 km) from the coast and will operate at the Guneshli, Chiraq, Azeri, Bulla, Pirallahi, West Absheron, and Chilov fields.

Main dimensions are as follows:

  • Length overall – 38.22 m (126 ft)
  • Breadth – 8.2 m (27 ft)
  • Depth – 4.3 m (14 ft)
  • Draught – 2.25 m (7.4 ft).

This is the first major project for the newly developed shipyard since it reached full capacity in 2013.
