RIO DE JANEIRO –Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) has confirmed the extension of the Jupiter discovery in the Santos basin presalt block BM-S-24 following drilling operations at well 3-BRSA-1246-RJS, known as Apollonia.
The well found a hydrocarbon column of about 1,027 ft (313 m) with rocks showing good porosity and permeability, confirming an oil column of about 285 ft (87 m) thick, besides the gas cap and condensate. Drilling is ongoing and is expected to reach a final depth of 18,701 ft (5,700 m).
Samples collected have confirmed similar fluids to those found in the discovery well and at both extension wells drilled so far, which confirmed a reservoir of gas, condensate, and oil.
Apollonia is situated 296 km (184 mi) off Rio de Janeiro in a water depth of 7,162 ft (2,183 m). This marks the fourth well drilled in the Jupiter area.
