MONTROSE, UK – The International Well Control Forum (IWCF) is establishing technical taskforces involving industry specialists to help improve the quality of well control training to ensure it remains current and relevant.
The independent, not-for-profit organization, which sets international training standards for well control, is making the move as part of several new measures in response to theInternational Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP) guidelines following the Macondo incident in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.
IWCF is seeking volunteers to take roles on eight new taskforces including drilling, well intervention and completion, quality of training, Level 5, crew resource management, enhanced certificate renewal, strategy group, and high-pressure/high-temperature.
The taskforces will consist of IWCF board members, member center representatives, and independent industry specialists.
IWCF administers well control training, assessment, and certification programs. It is committed to creating a step-change in well control knowledge and is investing in new facilities at its headquarters inMontrose, UK, to enhance training for assessors and instructors, including the use of simulators to replicate real-life scenarios. The organization also says it is introducing new levels to well control training, including a new Level 1 introductory online course, which will be available free to anyone with an interest in the industry before the end of the year.
