HOUSTON –Crowley’sOcean Skyhas completed back-up station-keeping and holdback services during a routine blackout test of Noble Jim Day, an ultra-deepwater semisubmersible oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. The rig is operating on the Stones prospect in 9,600 ft (2,926 m) of water in Walker Ridge block 508.
The company was contracted to have theOcean Sky connect its tow line to the rig, as part of the routine blackout testing, to serve as a contingency in the event the rig required additional assistance. The rig did not need assistance during the 12-hour drill, the company stated.
Ocean Sky, equipped with DP-3 technology, is classed as DP-2 and measures 156 ft (48 m), with a beam of 46 ft (14 m), hull depth of 25 ft (8 m), and a design draft of 21 ft (6 m).
