Scarabeo 5 to be laid up this fall

Statoil will suspend its contract with Saipem for the semisubmersible Scarabeo 5 from this fall due to overcapacity.

STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil will suspend its contract with Saipem for the semisubmersible Scarabeo 5 from this fall due to overcapacity.

The rig is working on theVisund complex and should complete its program in August. It will then be laid up. Statoil is planning to re-commission it after the turn of the year.

It remains on contract through 2017 and will be used fordrilling and completion of production wells to boost recovery from various Norwegian fields.

This year Statoil expects to drill 20-25 exploration wells on the Norwegian shelf, two-thirds as operator.
