Dragon updates drilling progress offshore Turkmenistan

Dragon Oil has decided to suspend its first new well on the Dzhygalybeg (Zhdanov) field in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea (Cheleken Contract Area).

DUBAI, UAE -- Dragon Oil has decided to suspend its first new well on the Dzhygalybeg (Zhdanov) field in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea (Cheleken Contract Area).

Appraisal well Zhdanov 21/101 was tested across limited reservoir intervals for initial oil production of 425 b/d with a high water content. The suspension is due to well bore stability issues – the well will be side tracked at a later date.

Dragon expects to havefive rigs working on its fields this year. Land Rig 1 is currently completing the Dzheitune (Lam) 22/188 well and will continue drilling on the Dzheitune (Lam) 22 platform.

TheElima jackup rig is drilling the Dzheitune (Lam) A/190 well, and the Neptune rig is being mobilized to the Dzheitune (Lam) C platform to spud the Dzheitune (Lam) C/191 well.

During the next fortnight Land Rig 2 will spud the Dzhygalybeg (Zhdanov) A/102 well.

Thenewbuild jackupCaspian Driller should arrive in the Cheleken Contract Area later this year.
