THE WOODLANDS, TexasBlue Ocean Technologies LLC, a riserless subsea well intervention company, has set industry records in subsea well intervention by intervening in, and subsequently conducting P&A on, a production gas well in 6,700 ft (2,042 m) of water and 12,600 ft (3,840 m) downhole, without a riser.

This intervention took place in Atwater Valley block 426, 130 nautical mi (240 km) south-southeast of Port Fourchon, Louisiana, in theGulf of Mexico. Blue Ocean Technologies completed the well with its interchangeable riserless intervention system (IRIS), using a dynamically positioned vessel as the work platform.

IRIS has completed numerous riserless (open-water) wireline runs, pulling and resetting horizontal tree plugs and deploying a variety of intervention tools multiple times, including gauges, bailers, perforating guns, a camera, and a logging tool. Each run represents a new industry record for riserless intervention.

This project marks the first time that wireline has been successfully run in open water at depths of 6,700 ft (2,042 m).
