RPSEA to fund SEG Advanced Modeling project

TULSA, Oklahoma –Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA) has selected SEG Advanced Modeling Corp. (SEAM) to receive $1.9 million in project funding for its "Pressure Prediction and Hazard Avoidance" project.
 
The "Pressure Prediction and Hazard Avoidance" project, the third joint industry project managed by SEAM, will evaluate and advance ways to predict pre-drill pressure and hazard. The consortium will provide a collaborative forum where industry experts prioritize current challenges in the use of seismic velocity (and other seismic attributes) to construct pre-drill pore pressure and shallow hazards forecasts.

"The intent of this project is to show our industry what current practice will produce when compared to a perfectly known geologic setting, and fluid setting when the data used to determine pore pressure is as perfect as it will ever be," stated Bill Head, senior manager, Ultra Deepwater, RPSEA. "Then opportunity exists to improve how we predict pore pressure from seismic now, and hopefully create suggestions to advance the science to a better, safer outcome."

Although the focus will bedeepwater Gulf of Mexico, the resultant advances in pressure prediction and shallow hazards technology and methodology will be more broadly relevant.

Beginning in the fall of 2014, the three-year project is currently inviting participation from industry.
