ABERDEEN, UK – Dragon Oil has awarded laser scanning specialist NB Surveys a $2-million contract to survey rigs operating offshore Turkmenistan.
NB’s survey will cover 11 of Dragon’s assets, and involves compiling and organizing data to inform future maintenance and repair decisions. Managing director Gordon Niven said the program would allow Dragon to access up-to-date as-built information and reproduce missing asset drawings, including structural, piping and P&IDs, which had been lost over 30 years of operations.
The contract follows a two-year pilot project involving a comprehensive survey of four 30-year-old platforms in the Turkmen sector of theCaspian Sea.
NB says the digital images that its laser scanning techniques generate lead to minimized plant down time and a reduction in project costs.
