MOSCOW – Lukoil has staged an oil response exercise ahead of exploration and appraisal drilling offshore Russia in the Baltic Sea.
The company’s OOO LUKOIL-Kaliningradmorneft plans to drill the D-29, D-33,D-6 Yuzhnaya, and D-41 wells over the next 12 months using the Gazflot jackup Arkticheskaya. The rig is at the D-29 location.
Lukoil’s scenario assumed an accident that led to around 1,500 tons of oil escaping to the sea, with potential pollution of the coastline.
As a response, operations were initiated to collect the oily mixture into tankers and transport it to the terminal onshore for further treatment. A coastline protection system was also deployed, along with five specialist vessels and an MI-8 helicopter operated by LUKOIL-Avia.
The exercise suggested that the emergency rescue teams and other regional service providers could react quickly to an offshore spill, Lukoil claimed.
