ASHINGTON, UK – NOV Flexibles has ordered diverless bend stiffener connectors from FES International for the Western Isles development in the UK northern North Sea.

The devices are said to cut the cost of installingsubsea risers and umbilicals by removing the need for the dive spread or workover ROV.

Subsea 7 is installing the Western Isles subsea facilities this summer.

Development takes in two oil fields 160 km (99.4 mi) east of the Shetland Islands in 165 m (541 ft) of water and with a reservoir depth of 6,000 ft (1,829 m). Operator Dana Petroleum plans five production and four water injection wells tied back to anewbuild FPSO.
