HOUSTONBenthic has plans to augment its PROD (Portable Remotely Operated Drill) fleet with the contracted build of PROD4, which is expected to enter service in 3Q 2015.

Benthic has awarded the PROD4 build contract toSoil Machine Dynamics of Newcastle, UK. PROD4 will be an enhanced version of the successful PROD2 and PROD3, which recently set seabed drill deepwater records in East Africa. PROD4 is a 3,000-m (9,843-ft) rated geotechnical drill capable of undertaking CPT and BPT measurements and to do rock and piston coring to depths up to 150 m (492 ft) below the mud line.

PROD4 will be complemented by a fourth Launch & Recovery System (LARS4) featuring active heave compensation and 3,000-m (9,843-ft) deployment capability. LARS4 was redesigned with enhanced deployment capability in harsh environments, and in deep and ultra-deepwater conditions, and has been configured to be mobilized on a wider range of vessels than was previously possible.Ennsub has been contracted to build LARS4, and expects its completion in 1Q 2015.
