LONDONOphir Energy says the Affanga Deep-1 well is currently drilling on the Gnondo block offshore Gabon.

The well is targeting an extension to the proven Ogooué Delta play, with potential recoverable resources of 170 MMbbl. On completion, the rig will transfer to the presalt play to the north to drill the Okala prospect on the Mbeli block.

Late last year, Gabon’s government provisionally allocated numerous blocks to Ophir under the recentdeepwater licensing round. Confirmation of the award is subject to the conclusion of production-sharing contract negotiations.

Once the present offshore Gabon campaign has finished Ophir plans exploration and appraisal drilling off Equatorial Guinea using the drillshipVantage Titanium Explorer.

OffshoreTanzania, the drillship Deepsea Metro I is currently drilling the Taachui-1 well on block I for BG and its partners, including Ophir.

This well is targeting around 1.4 tcf (40 bcm) recoverable within Cretaceous reservoirs.

Thereafter the rig will perform a drillstem test on last year’s Mzia-3 well, followed by a well on the Tende-1 prospect on the East Pande block, and finishing with an exploratory well on Kamba/Pweza North exploration well on block 4.
