NPD approves wildcat drilling, buoy removal

OSLO, Norway --Centrica Energi has clearance from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for exploratory drilling in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

The company has contracted the jackupMærsk Giant to drill well in production license 405. This will be the sixth well in the license, awarded under the APA 2006 round, and comprising parts of blocks 7/9, 7/12, 8/7, 8/8, 8/10, and 8/11. 

Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority has sanctioned Statoil Petroleum’s plan to remove a loading buoy from the Heidrun oil export system in the Norwegian Sea Haltenbanken region.

The field has been developed using a concretefloating TLP over a subsea facility with 56 well slots in 350 m (1,148 ft) of water.

The program should start next month.
