Newbuild Hercules jackup to work for Maersk in North Sea

Hercules North Sea has awarded Jurong Shipyard a $236-million contract to build a high-spec jackup drilling rig, due for delivery in 2Q 2016.

SINGAPORE – Hercules North Sea has awarded Jurong Shipyard a $236-million contract to build a high-spec jackup drilling rig, due for delivery in 2Q 2016.

It will be based on the Friede & Goldman JU 2000E design with enhanced features forUK offshore operations.

The rig will be able to work in up to 400 ft (122 m) of water and drill to depths of 30,000 ft (9,144 m). It will feature 2-million lb drilling capacity, 6,000-bbl mud capacity, 28,000 kips preload capacity for the legs, and accommodation for 150 personnel.

Following delivery, the rig will be chartered out toMaersk Oil and Gas for deployment in the UK North Sea.
