OSLO, Norway – The semisubmersible Transocean Arctic has started drilling Pil side track well 6406/12-3 B in Norwegian Sea license PL 586.

Earlier this month operator VNG estimated the size of thePil discovery at 50-170 MMboe.

According to partner Rocksource, the 6406/12-3 S discovery well has been plugged back to the 20-in. casing shoe from where the side track starts.

The side track, to be drilled downdip of the discovery well, is designed to prove the lateral extent of the Pil reservoir, reduce uncertainty over the volume range, and to test upside within the closure.

Operations are estimated to last 30 days.
